National Institution for Human Rights: “The commitment of the Kingdom of Bahrain to provide vaccination to all citizens and residents comes in line with the requirements and provisions of national and international human rights mechanisms.”

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) is monitoring the continuatinued national campaign for vaccination against Coronavirus (Covid-19) to provide all types of vaccinations, for all citizens and residents, especially for people suffering from chronic diseases, the elderly and people with disabilities. NIHR confirms, through its vigorous follow-up of the vaccination stages that the plan is being implemented accurately and professionally, and is in line with international human rights standards.

The NIHR also expresses its satisfaction with the health and safety measures in the Kingdom through the precautionary measures being applied, and the provision of various types of vaccinations in hospitals and health centers, based on a complete, comprehensive and thoughtful plan, as well as facilitating all citizens’ and residents’ choices of the type of vaccine they wish to obtain, with the aim of reaching the acquired immunity levels and reducing the number of infections and controlling this virus.

NIHR believes that the commitment to provide various types of vaccines to all citizens and residents and inviting them to choose the most suitable for them comes in line with the Kingdom's obligations to ensure access to vaccines for the Coronavirus following the requirements and provisions of human rights mechanisms, whether national mechanisms such as the National Action Charter and the Bahraini Constitution that guaranteed the right to health in article no. (8)paragraph (A) that states: “Every citizen has the right to health care, and the state cares for public health, and guarantees the means of prevention and treatment ...”, or international mechanisms, especially those concerned with protecting and promoting the right to health,

which comes in the forefront of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, to which the Kingdom of Bahrain has acceded under Law No. (10) of 2007, and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, to which the Kingdom acceded under Decree-Law No. (5) of 2002, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which Bahrain joined under Decree-Law No. (16) of 1991, or regional mechanisms such as the Arab Charter on Human Rights, which was ratified under Law No. (7) of 2006.

The NIHR calls on everyone to take the initiative to get vaccination as soon as possible and register to take the booster dose for those eligible to receive it in accordance with the instructions issued by the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (COVID-19) to provide the highest levels of immunity to the entire community and contribute to preventing the transmission of the virus and limiting its spread.

The NIHR also stresses the importance of concerted national efforts through the compliance of all to the precautionary measures and guidance instructions issued by the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (COVID-19) while continuing to adhere to the guidelines that will limit the spread of the virus.

The NIHR takes this opportunity to extend its sincere condolences and sympathies to the families of the deceased and its wishes for speedy recovery for existing cases. The NIHR also expresses its sincere thanks and gratitude to all national frontline healthcare workers, all State institutions and all volunteers displaying the most wonderful images of giving, sincerity and humanitarian service that would promote and protect human rights in order to achieve the goals set to limit the spread of this virus, respond to it, and work to eradicate it.
